Mumbai Indians, owned by Indiawin Sports Private Limited (a subsidiary of Reliance Industries), are one of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Founded in 2008, the team is based in Mumbai and plays its home matches at Wankhede Stadium. They have won the IPL title five times—in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020—all under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, making them the first franchise to achieve five championships. Additionally, they clinched the now-defunct Champions League T20 twice, in 2011 and 2013. Despite a slow start in the early IPL seasons, Mumbai Indians experienced a major turnaround in 2013 when Rohit Sharma took over as captain. Their recent performances have been mixed: they finished fifth in 2021, tenth (last) in 2022, and reached the playoffs in 2023, where they defeated Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator but lost to Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2. In 2024, they again finished last (10th) in the points table . The team is currently coached by Mahela Jayawardene and captained by Hardik Pandya, continuing their legacy as a dominant force in T20 cricket.
